Building an Online Presence: Content is King
Building an Online Presence: Content is King
Let me start out by being completely honest with everyone: We write this blog strictly for the content it holds. Yep, it may sound selfish, but it’s true.
Each word you read is placed with the intent of building an online presence because content is king when it comes to how we perform in a search engine on the World Wide Web.
In fact, without you evening knowing it, the previous sentence just made this whole blog perform that much better in a search.
So, let’s spend a few minutes learning about how you can build an online presence by offering concise content that will help your searchability on the internet. (Yeah, I just did it again!)
Rule #1 – Word placement is paramount.
The first paragraph is a good example of how word placement sets the tone for how strong your content will be. The title dictates what the content will be about, and you will find I used those words (in the same order) sprinkled throughout the first 100 words.
Search engines offer their results via how strong the keyword being searched is referenced in the content it searches. In other words, if you know how your customers are searching for your business, you will want to write content that contains those keywords, up front, in your messages.
The stronger your use of that keyword is in your write-ups, blogs, pages, and descriptions, the better you will place in a search. Building an online presence isn’t hard to do once you wire the content. (See what I did there?)
Rule #2 – Repeating repetitive repetition is boring: Be a wordsmith with your message.
Let’s face it, if you kept seeing “building an online presence” and “content is king” over and over again, you’d be bored with what you’re reading and probably move on.
However, if you’re smooth in how you use these words throughout your entry, you can sprinkle your message with content that strengthens your presence online in a search engine.
The best way to approach each entry is with the intent of establishing your message early, using keywords associated with your business frequently and effectively and keeping them present throughout the piece.
Understanding how the search engine works should dictate how you offer (and deliver) your information in a way that enables it to performs well in a search.
Rule #3 – Understanding “SEO” is more than internet blah blah blah stuff.
Behind every webpage, there is a “data nerd” monitoring how well that webpage is performing with its online presence. They watch how people search for their business and “tweak” or restructure the pages to promote being found. Understanding how “Search Engine Optimization” works gives you a leg up when it comes to what you offer in content and how it’s structured.
The goal of your content should be to deliver your message in a clear and concise way that includes buzzwords, keywords and well-placed phrases (associated with your brand, product or service).
Thus far, this blog is a good example of how to stick with a theme, keep the reader motivated, and strategically place the content to enhance our web placement as it relates to a search on this topic.
It’s not hard to do once you figure it out.
Rule #4 – Prepare for a “Direct” AND “Organic” search when you write.
There are two ways to search for data on the internet: Direct and Organic.
Direct searches rely on “exact syntax,” for example, finding that exact string of letters, words, numbers or phrases that match what the user is searching for online. This is how you find things like that “RVC2257” replacement battery that fits in your old watch.
Organic searches rely on how many times what you are searching for appears within the content. This is why you see other replacement batteries that pop up in your search.
Knowing that the search hits on both “Direct” and “Organic” in a descending order of its strength of content will help dictate how you lay out your message.
Again, it’s all about helping you establish a better online presence and bumping your location on a search string result. (Yep, did it again!)
Rule #5 – Insert some tricks that make your online content POP.
By now, you’ve probably picked up what I’ve been putting down. You see some stuff is “bold”, some stuff is “italicized,” and there are some headers and underlined stuff. These are all tricks you can use to build the strength of your message and perform better in a search.
By switching up the formats of the content, you are doing things that trigger what a search engine looks for as it conducts its scan.
Adding these little tricks to your content enhances your position online, increases your impressions (or how many people see your page), and fuels your online presence, which in return bumps your business location in a search return. Again, these are small details that help you stand out from the rest online.
Hopefully, this blog sheds some insight behind the mysteries of the internet, how to deliver online content that will enhance your presence and why “so-and-so” is ahead of you when you search for your business or products online.
I’ve also tried to make this blog a prime example of how to do this effectively, sprinkling the content with buzzwords, direct phrases, and keywords and inserting the tricks to make it pop.
It’s not difficult to do once you figure out how it all works and benefits your business in ways only a data nerd can appreciate. However, making it a point to offer online content with the intent of building an online presence should be the end goal of each entry.
And, yes, I had to throw that last line in there to wrap this blog up – why? Because that’s what this whole thing is about.
